RSX ETF holdings may have observable local economic value without being accessible or distributable to the fund. RSXValue keeps those concepts separate and does not present a guaranteed recovery.
Is the RSX ETF still trading?
No. Secondary trading in RSX was halted in March 2022 and the fund entered liquidation. A scenario estimate on RSXValue is not a quote at which an investor can buy or sell an RSX share.
Why can the reported RSX ETF NAV be close to zero while Russian shares still have local prices?
A local Moscow Exchange quotation does not prove that the liquidating fund can access, transfer, sell, convert or distribute the asset. Official reporting and a local look-through estimate answer different questions and should not be treated as interchangeable prices.
What does local portfolio value mean?
It is a gross look-through calculation based on disclosed security quantities, available local prices, documented depositary-receipt ratios, labelled proxies, cash and estimated fund shares. It is calculated before legal access, execution, currency conversion, costs and distribution constraints.
Is the RSXValue estimate a fair value or price target?
No. It is a transparent scenario model, not an official NAV, tradable market price, accounting valuation, price target or promised distribution. Users can change the assumptions instead of relying on one categorical forecast.
Could RSX ETF investors receive another distribution?
A future distribution may be possible, but it is not guaranteed. It would require the fund to establish usable ownership rights, obtain any necessary permissions, access and sell assets, convert and transfer proceeds, and complete the fund distribution process.
Would removing sanctions automatically unlock the RSX ETF?
No. Sanctions are only one part of the chain. Russian restrictions, custody and registrar arrangements, market liquidity, permitted counterparties, foreign-exchange conversion and intermediary processing can remain separate obstacles.
Where do the holdings and market prices come from?
Fund quantities and status information come from VanEck disclosures and SEC filings. Local market indications use Moscow Exchange ISS data. Material mappings, proxies and Level 3 estimates are labelled in the holdings table and methodology.
How current is the estimate?
The dashboard displays the relevant holdings source date and market-data status. RSX snapshots are stored on scheduled trading days, while the official-source monitor checks VanEck disclosures daily. Delayed data is explicitly identified.
